I’m sure I’m alone in this but I can’t avoid hearing similarities between Lady Gaga’s “Judas” and Super Junior’s “BONAMANA”. The structure’s not the same, but the elements are: a rhythmic hook repeating the song’s title ad infinitum; verses with an almost rap-like delivery; an obligatory melodic section (the chorus for Gaga and the “I’ll keep loving you” middle eight for Suju); and even goofy choreography (the 60’s-dance arms in “Judas”, the “falling off a log” move in “BONAMANA”). It’s not as blatant a side-by-side as “Born This Way” vs. SNSD’s “Be Happy”, but I did call “Sorry, Sorry” the “Bad Romance” of K-pop (great hooks, piling on top of each other, forever), so maybe Suju is just the Lady Gaga of K-pop in general? Heechul, in the above picture, seems to agree. (photo via ichigotchi)
(I also can’t avoid thinking that Kenneth Anger would have done an amazing job with the video for “Judas”. But only if the parts with her dismal choreography were taken out and a different song was put in, of course.)
